Artist Residencies
The funding payments (first installment) for the 4 lead organisations for TPWM residencies project were formally approved:
. University of Worcester with Movement Gallery and Worcester Art Gallery and Museum
. Library of Birmingham
. Eastside Projects
. The National Trust
New Writing
The funding payments (first instalment) for the 2 lead organisations for TPWM New Writing bursaries were formally approved:
. Grand Union - to support the development of an artist writer
. Writing West Midlands – for established non-visual arts writer to write about the visual arts
It was agreed that an art journal, a literary journal and a broadsheet would be considered for publication of the new writing.
Artist Professional Development
The TPWM Steering Group will investigate funding through non-art departments, such as economic development within local authorities with a view to increasing support for artist professional development activity across the region.
Group Structure
The TPWM Director was asked to write a briefing paper on the future structure of the TPWM Steering Group for discussion by the Group.
The Group discussed the decision of Birmingham City Council to no longer have a Culture Cabinet Minister and the need for TPWM to have a representative to inform the Council on the visual arts. This will be followed up.
New Name
Contemporary Visual Art Network (CVAN) is now the name for the national network formally known as the TP network. TPWM, is one of 9 regions in the network retain its name.
An update was given on the national Contemporary Visual Art Network Summit held in London on 10 May 2012. The opening address was given by Gavin Wade, Director of Eastside Projects.
The Group and TPWM through its work with others, will identify items to be put forward for the CVAN national meetings of the Chairs from each region. The next CVAN Chairs meeting is 20 June 2012.
